De Grandhomme to miss ODI series following death of his father

14 dezembro 2017 08:48

Colin de Grandhomme will play no part in New Zealand's one-day international series against West Indies following the death of his father.

The all-rounder played an important role in the Black Caps' 2-0 Test series win over the tourists, making a hundred in the first match and a fifty in the second as well as picking up four wickets across both Tests.

But New Zealand confirmed on Thursday that De Grandhomme had returned to Zimbabwe to be with his family. His place in the squad has been taken by Doug Bracewell.

"Our thoughts are with Colin de Grandhomme and his family following the passing of his father yesterday. Colin has returned to Zimbabwe and has been replaced in the BLACKCAPS ODI squad by Doug Bracewell," confirmed the team via Twitter.

Selector Gavin Larsen added: "This is obviously extremely sad news for Colin and his family and we're all thinking of them at the moment.

"Right now, the most important thing is that Colin is with his family."

The first of three ODIs begins at Cobham Oval in Whangarei on Wednesday.
