Storm and Raiders snatch dramatic wins

25 maio 2018 15:42

North Queensland Cowboys' miserable season continued as they suffered a 7-6 defeat to Melbourne Storm on Friday, while Manly Sea Eagles also suffered a one-point defeat against Canberra Raiders.

The Cowboys have won just three games in 2018 and were edged out by a 71st-minute drop goal from Cameron Munster at 1300SMILES Stadium after Cameron Smith and Kyle Feldt had exchanged tries.

There was almost a late twist in the tale as Michael Morgan crossed for North Queensland, but the try was ruled out for obstruction.

To make matters worse for the hosts, Scott Bolton was forced off in obvious discomfort after taking a blow to the ribs.

Aidan Sezer was the hero for the Raiders as his last-gasp drop goal condemned Manly to a scarcely deserved 21-20 defeat.

The Sea Eagles charged into an early lead through tries from Daly Cherry-Evans and Joel Thompson, only to be pegged back by Nick Cotric's brace.

Down to 12 men with Trent Hodkinson in the sin bin, the Sea Eagles nevertheless moved 20-14 ahead thanks to Brian Kelly's 63rd-minute try.

However, Jack Wighton's converted touchdown levelled the scores and there was still time for Sezer to snatch victory with 21 seconds on the clock.
