Raiders exercise fifth-year option on Amari Cooper

Amari Cooper is staying in Oakland for the foreseeable future after the Raiders exercised the fifth-year option on the wide receiver.

Monday's announcement will see two-time Pro Bowler Cooper, 23, extend his contract through to the 2019 NFL season.

The decision comes as no surprise after head coach Jon Gruden previously told reporters that Cooper would play a key role in Oakland's offense.

"He'll be the focal point of our offense," Gruden said in February. "He has tremendous quickness. He's smart, versatile and he's a gamer. He likes the bright lights, and he'll be the headliner in our offense."

Cooper was selected by the Raiders in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft and boasted breakout campaigns in his first two seasons as he compiled 155 receptions for 2,223 yards with 11 touchdowns during that time.

However, his production dropped last season as he missed two games while dealing with an ankle injury.
