Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo has agreed to a new deal with the MLB franchise.

The Diamondbacks announced on Tuesday that they agreed to a contract extension with Lovullo, whose current deal was due to expire after 2019.

Lovullo's extension will keep the 53-year-old with the Diamondbacks through 2021, according to reports.

"Torey's leadership and ability to connect with people, specifically our players and coaches, provides the foundation for the culture we continue to cultivate and grow in Arizona," general manager Mike Hazen said in a statement.

"This is an exciting day for Torey, his family and the D-Backs."

Lovullo was named the Diamondbacks manager in November 2016. He earned National League Manager of the Year honours after leading the team to a 93-69 record and a playoff appearance in 2017.

The Diamondbacks finished 82-80 last season.
